Ultrasonic Thickness Testing (UTT) is one of the non-destructive NDT methods. It consists in using longitudinal ultrasonic waves and measuring the time of their passage in an object giving the result of its thickness.
The method allows also to determine the wall thickness of pipes, pipelines, tanks, plates and sheets, castings and other products. It is used during manufacturing and exploitation processes in cases where one-sided access to the tested object is possible. They are also used to determine the depth of discontinuities in ultrasonic testing and the con-dition of the entire volume of the inspected item. Ultrasonic thickness measurements are performed on objects made of metals, plastics, glass, rubber, fiberglass, composite materials and others.
